Ngāmotu Golf Course
Established almost a century ago on the outskirts of Taranaki’s main centre of New Plymouth, it is a classic par-72 layout and a superb golf challenge. It has been the venue of four New Zealand Open championships and numerous national and provincial amateur events.
Ngāmotu is designed so that both nines sweep out from the clubhouse in two giant loops, which means that no matter which way the wind is blowing, there will be an adventure for players at some time or other during each round.
This is particularly the case with Ngāmotu’s four par three holes, which are regarded as among the best in the country. Not only do they range widely in their lengths, but they all point in different directions of the compass.
Ngāmotu’s modern course features water on five of the holes while many of the greens are large and contoured so they can be a true test of a golfer’s putting ability.
Our name, Nāamotu, is Māori for “The Islands”, and refers to the islands which lie just off the New Plymouth shoreline. These islands are in full view when playing the holes at the seaward end of our golf course.
The Ngāmotu Cafe
The Ngāmotu Cafe is open 6 days a week and has a great view over the 8th green and stunning vistas overlooking the Tasman Sea, Mount Taranaki and New Plymouth City. A welcoming venue to relax after a great game of golf.
The Cafe is also open on those days when special events are organised – eg Corporate Days, Sponsored Tournaments, Social Events, Inter-Club Competitions, Open Tournaments, Xmas Hampers, Veteran’s Events and Eagles Tournaments etc.
A variety of cold drinks, chocolate and muesli bars can be purchased from the Pro Shop when the Cafe is closed.
The NPGC Bar
The Ngāmotu Bar is set within our clubhouse overlooking the 8th green. The bar and lounge offers great views across the course, right down to the Tasman Sea. It is an ideal place from which to view our brilliant Taranaki sunsets. The Bar carries an excellent selection of beer, wines and spirits.
